Veterinarians who are board certified in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation are Veterinary specialists who focus on injury prevention and improving and optimizing function, well-being, fitness, and performance of athletic, working, and companion animals, as well as diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation and pain management of patients with lameness and chronic conditions and those recovering from injury, illness, surgery and dysfunction. To become a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, veterinarians must complete an internship (or equivalent) and residency training program followed by a rigorous board-certification examination.
